The rise of Tube & Berger began many years ago, but no one can deny that 2014 was the year that the Kitball founders rose to an unprecedented peak in their quirky underground schematic. Now the German duo takes on British peers Blonde and their summery solo vocal offering “I Loved You,” bringing that weird and wonderful musical aptitude into the remits of commercial house music for the final quarter. Departing from the original’s more sugary demeanor, Tube & Berger’s take strikes a melancholic line through the Melissa Steel versed cut, replacing the originals perky grooves with a warped and low-end favoring run of murky bass leads and sparing melodic interventions. What Tube & Berger do best works in reverse of the industry norm, shifting house music from the comfort zones into a sound scope that the duo has literally dominated on its own terms. The pair do this one completely against the modern play books and to their avail, it’s another fine mark on their discography for 2014.
