China House

Once, one of Mumbai’s most talked about nightclubs is still as packed any Chinese wholesale market, but the goods sold aint cheap. Housed in the Grand Hyatt at Santa Cruz, this club can boast of having hosted some crazy Fashion Week after parties and may have served every celebrity that has visited Mumbai till date. The decor is fantastic and the bar tenders know how to make pouring a simple whiskey-water also look amazing. Arguably one of the most well designed row tables in a nightclub and a private lounge with antique furniture which doesn’t seem very ‘club-like’, yet has that exquisite ‘oomph’ factor to it.

The DJ set is a mess in our opinion. Using the term ‘Commercial House’, DOES NOT allow Return of the Mack or Sandstorm to fit into the playlist. A large percentage of the crowd falls in the ‘old-timer’ category, so I’m guessing the DJ is justified. Well, in all fairness, the lounge has tried its hand at hosting DJs of various genres to entertain their regulars but, we havent seen this place ‘reeallyyy poppin bro’.

The Bummer: The sense of confusion one feels when when paying top dollar for a drink but getting the feeling of being pushed about and struggling to get attention like in a fish market.

Power Tip: Load up your prepaid card for drinks with plenty of credit beforehand to avoid molestation at the bar.
