For those lucky enough to attend Galantis’ debut performance at Coachella Weekend 1, a surprise trap edit of “You” ranked among the many highlights. Now well into their first North American tour, the pair has revealed that it was none other than Brillz who worked the hi-hat magic. While only a snippet of the remix rang out in the Gobi Tent, the full edition has now been previewed for all the world to hear. At first a subtle gloss marked more by its muting than its additions, the LA trapstar’s effort waits one whole minute before laying down his signature styling in a body moving break. It is this section that caused screams to erupt, and though its post-build sliding synth and elegant editing stands out, perhaps more remarkable is the fact that it doesn’t fully dominate the track but instead acts as a cherry on top, an unexpected injection of edge that serves as a delicious foil to the sweetness of the original. Though no release date has been announced, the reveal of the trap rendition just days after two more conventional edits emerged indicates that Galantis sound good in any genre language.
