Lab* Monkeys Immersing themselves in sound production at a young age of 19, Moazzam Kantawalla and Ankit Goel found their big break a couple of years into the business when they worked together for the renowned artist John Jones (Hed Kandi).
A mutual love for progressive house had the two collaborating further in the studio… and so Lab* Monkeys was born. The duo has since performed in all kinds of settings, opening for renowned artists such as Myon & Shane 54, Super8 & Tab, Haley Parson, Apache Indian, Nikhil Chinappa and DJ Clement D’Souza. Furthermore, they write, record and play their own productions in nightclubs all over their hometown of Pune, enrapturing the audience with their melodic compositions.
Their sounds have won them a steady fan base, with productions being played all over town – as unreleased tracks find their place at gigs with other DJs’ sets, they say. Ask the artists about their audience and Ankit says, “Since our sets are so energetic and lively, I think the young crowd really associates with our sounds.” Associates, indeed. Their steady pattern of beats and tunes has the crowd pulsing with enthusiasm – there’s never a dull moment with these boys!
Influenced by Logiztik Soundz, Robert Babicz, Len Faki, Vinayak^A, What So Not! And a few more artists, Lab* Monkeys are now carving a niche for themselves in the music world. With the force of distinctly passionate music behind them, the young DJs have a clear game plan in mind: “We’re just here to make you GO BANANAS! ”
The talented pair has played across a number of destinations in Pune such as Area 51 (residency), Penthouze (residency), Club Miami, Swig, High Spirits, Mocha Café Bar, and 1 Lounge, as well as Café La Musica (Goa) and many more -‐ giving rise to the ardent fan following they’ve gathered across town. More impressive is the fact that even people who don’t usually enjoy dance music find themselves grooving to the Lab* Monkeys tunes!
From their emergent collaboration over three years ago to the thumping (literally) success they’ve become today, the Lab* Monkeys have clearly made their mark on the music scene in Pune. Playing their sets with fervor that can’t help but be contagious; they sure do make you ‘Go Bananas!’
