Review: MTV Bloc Party

MTV Bloc Party, was definitely one of the most awaited weekends in January with Deniz Koyu & Alesso headlining this two day event at Juhu Hotel. First day started at 5pm going on till 10pm had seen likes of Nikhil Chinapa, Anish Sood, Jean Elan & Cosmo Klein with Deniz Koyu closing for the first night after which the Bloc Party shifted to three clubs across Juhu : Enigma, Beach Comber & Gadda Da Vida with the Bloc Party cabs taking the ravers from one venue to the other. The second day started off at 2pm with Safar , Sky Rabbit, Goddess Gagged, Willy, Simon Dunmore & Shovell, B.R.E.E.D., Opiou with Alesso ending the second day & MTV Bloc Party.

To say Deniz Koyu’s set was amazing is injustice as it was one hell of a banger with him opening his set with Tiësto’s ‘Chasing Summers’. Koyu dropped his two new tracks ‘Rage’ & ‘Halo’ which are to be out soon. He won the crowd’s heart with a mash up of Bong & Fade Into Darkness which later transitioned into Tujamo’s WHO which made everyone jump high! Few other tracks played by him were – Zedd’s Spectrum(Deniz Koyu Remix) ; Sander Van Doorn’s Kangaroo ; Dada Life’s Kick Out The Epic Motherf*cker (Otto Knows Remix) ; Calvin Harris’ Feel So Close ; mash up of Million Voices vs Atom vs Apologize (this had the maximum number of people on their friends’ shoulders, a sight to see) ; Follow You (ft. Wynter Gordon) ; Matt Nash & Dave Silcox’s Praise You; a mash up of Pendulum’s The Island & Sebastian Ingrosso & Tommy Trash’s Reload. He closed his set with Swedish House Mafia’s Don’t You Worry Child. All in all, the set was great, visuals made it 10000 times better & it was just perfect, he made sure that no one would forget his set.

The next day, we went for Opiou’s set, and all we can say about Opiou is he is the next Skrillex! So much energy, so much love for the music he was mixing made the crowd go simply insane. It was a perfect set to pump up the crowd for Alesso’s set. Alesso’s set can be summed up in two words : MIND BLOWING. This 21 year Swedish DJ is just so inspirational for all the DJs who are just starting out. His set included Sandro Silva & Quintino’s Epic ; a mash up of Adele’s Set Fire To The Rain & Clash ; mash up of Calvin Harris’ ft. Florence Welch Sweet Nothing & Sebastian Ingrosso & Tommy Trash’s Reload ; Years ; City Of Dreams ; Tiësto’s Heiress Of Valentina (Alesso Remix); Nillionaire ; Tujamo’s WHO; Deadmau5 & Chris James’ The Veldt (Tommy Trash Remix) ; Calvin Harris ft. Example’s We’ll Be Coming Back; a mash up of Florence & The Machine’s Spectrum(Say My Name) with his remix of Arty’s When I See You; the new hit of Mat Zo & Porter Robinson – Easy. Also played him by him was the Swedish trio’s Don’t You Worry Child & he ended the set with Calling(Lose My Mind). Alesso are dropped two ID tracks, which should be released soon because it was out of the world!

Not to forget, both, Deniz Koyu & Alesso had the biggest smiles on their faces which showed that they were LOVING the energy of the crowd!

This bloc party was a perfect kick start to Januarave and definitely pumped up the crowd for the much awaited Swedish House Mafia gig.
