Solarstone’s set at The Blue Frog, Mumbai on May 18 was a crisp and simple album feature that did its job right- bringing a smile to every face in the club.
Up in the Clouds:
His new album Pure, does full justice to the name and is full of beautiful piano notes and well constructed bass-lines. Smart use of vocals only compliment the sound and not form the focus of the tracks. Truly uplifting tunes helped maintain a consistent feel through the set with more than a couple of occasions when I just had to open my eyes and watch the master at work. Seamlessly blending one track into the other while ‘fingering’ fader for live effects, Solarstone kept the relatively small audience on their toes. The Bluefrog felt different last night, it felt more, how should I put this, Pure? Each person had enough personal space to express themselves with the music, service was fantastically quick and almost everyone seemed to be in sync.. I think I’ll go to the extent of saying he ‘shook the demon’ in me.
Where Do We Go From Here?
The set began to really pick-up post 12:30. The swaying hands started turning into bouncy feet as the beats got harder and the drops less deep. It was an affair with the sound- a one night stand more like. Just as things started getting ‘steamy’ on the floor and everyone hit the bar for another round. Shots-down, energy-up, speakers-shut.
A well deserved round of applause + a set that brought back fond memories + The Blue Frog the way it always should be = a night I don’t think id ever want to forget!
